Harlen A. Murray, 79, Massena

MASSENA – Harlen A. Murray, 79, a longtime resident of Grassmere and Laurel Terrace passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Harlen was born November 13, 1944, the son of the late John L. and Anna May (Murray) Murray.

As a young man, Harlen did farm work and later worked as a janitor at the Sheraton Hotel.

He enjoyed watching television, especially Sci-Fi shows, going to stock car and lawn mower races, dancing, and visiting with friends. He will fondly be remembered for being a “happy go lucky” guy.

Harlen is survived by his cousins, Debbie McGregor, James Murray, Patricia Larue, and Bobby Murray; chosen grandchildren, Kelly and Delbert Jr. LaGrow and their mother, Barbara Rushlow; and many friends including, Dawn and Marshall Despaw and Patti Dabiew who have been his caregivers for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Murray on August 18, 2017; his longtime companion, Doris Rushlow; his grandmother, Cora Murray; his aunts, Geneva and Imogene Murray; his cousins, Eleanor Seguin and David Murray; and a chosen granddaughter, Kerry LaGrow and her father, Delbert LaGrow, Sr.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.

A Celebration of his life will be held March 30th from 12-3:00 PM at the Laurel Terrace Community Room.

Harlen will be buried with his brother in Pine Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made in his memory to Massena Rescue Squad.
