CANTON -- FC Freeze Blue U17G (0-2) recently hosted their sister team, FC Freeze White (2-0), in a battle for the club’s bragging rights.
White started out strong with the first ball between the goalposts at 3:40. Midfielder Olivia Mace (Colton) made a killer lead pass to right winger Katie Cowen. Cowen blasted a shot from 25 yards out to the far left post to put Freeze White on the scoreboard.
Nine minutes later, Whites Grace Bilow (Malone) smoked a shot at Blue’s keeper Shaq Jackson (Gouverneur). Jackson deflected the shot down, and Cowen charged the net, using her chest to push the ball in for the game's second score.
At the twenty-four minute mark, Sophia Janoyan (Potsdam) intercepted a pass near midfield. She kicked the ball towards the right sideline to Cowen who raced up the sideline. Cowen scored with a strong shot from outside the 18 to the top far post, for a hat trick.
Late in the first half, Blue made three strong runs on White’s net, but keeper Hope Walker (Lisbon) stopped all of them. At halftime, the score was 3-0.
White started out the second half strong. Just over four minutes into the second half, center striker Janoyan took control of the ball at midfield. She outran her defender and smashed a low shot past Jackson’s outstretch hands.
Thirty minutes into the half, Brooke Hayes (Parishville) was able to dribble from the right sideline past two defenders towards goal. She unleashed a beautiful centering pass towards the left post to charging forward Caitlin Dunning (Parishville). With one touch, Dunning’s low shot found the back of the net.
Blue made a number of good shots on net but Walker completed the game with her second clean sheet.
Next Wednesday, June 21 at 6:30, FC Freeze White hosts LCU Comets (1-1) at SLU, and FC Freeze Blue travels to Upstate United SC Ducks (0-1) at Watertown’s YMCA Fairgrounds field #1.
