In response to the Letter to the Editor “Irresponsible To Print Anonymous Hate Speech,” which ran in the July 8-14 issue of North Country This Week, I actually applaud you for printing what the author deemed as hate speech in the Sound Off “Flag Displays.” Not because I necessarily agree with what was said; but I agree with the freedom to say it. Do some research on the First Amendment and where the term hate speech began and you will find some solid, legal information; Supreme Court cases. Do we want the government regulating our speech and ideas? Don’t confuse what offends us with true threats or inciting a crime.
