OGDENSBURG -- The Program Committee of the Ogdensburg Public Library, 312 Washington St., will present a four-part series on end-of-life issues from April through July, with one presentation each month.

All sessions will begin at 6 p.m., will be held in the library, and each will last 60-90 minutes.

The series will kick off Wednesday, April 17 with a panel discussion led by attorney and St. Lawrence County Surrogate Court Judge, Michelle Ladouceur and local funeral director Patty Murray of Fox-Murray Funeral Home.

Judge Ladouceur will cover wills, health care proxies, powers of attorney, trusts, living wills, and how the court proceeds.

Murray will address how to organize an end of life celebration: who to contact, whether there will be a funeral, where it will take place, what documents are needed, what is needed if one is a veteran, and the like.

The second session May 29, will be Hospice 101 led by Kate Favaro, bereavement coordinator at Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. A brief history of our local hospice will be given. The services the Hospice provides and how a person qualifies for Hospice care will be explained.

Kate Favaro returns June 12 to guide participants in writing obituaries that include information which will pay tribute to a loved one and to make it special.

Finally on July 10, local author, Holly Chorba, will discuss her book It’s Okay…Scream in the Shower, a book she wrote after the death of her husband. This book shares what she learned to help her survive and thrive after her loss. The presentation will be followed by a book signing.
