OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center will partner with the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box program on Saturday, Aug. 15, beginning at 10 a.m., distributing free family-sized boxes with fresh produce, dairy, and meat products.
The event will take place in the parking lot of the Medical Center’s Richard E. Winter Cancer Center. Approximately 350 boxes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis until all boxes are gone.
Claxton-Hepburn’s Director of Food Service, Steve Hawes, commented, “During these challenging times, Claxton-Hepburn is proud to partner with the USDA to give back to our community.”
The Farmers to Families Food Box events are a part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program that enables the USDA to partner with farmers, ranchers, specialty crop producers, food processors and distributors, and non-profit organizations, like Claxton-Hepburn, to ensure that all Americans have access to the fresh and wholesome food they need during the COVID-19 national emergency.
The program enables farmers to sell food previously destined for restaurants and bulk purchasers to distributors, preventing waste. To date, 50 million boxes of food have been distributed to Americans in need.
