Fire departments throughout St. Lawrence County are holding open houses to recruit new volunteer firefighters on April 26 and 27. There will be tours, demonstrations and question-and-answer sessions with fire personnel. A news release from the St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs Association says volunteer firefighter numbers have dwindled in recent years.
April 26:
• Colton, Edwards, Hopkinton-Fort Jackson, Morley and Russell fire departments, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Heuvelton and DeKalb Junction fire departments, noon to 4 p.m.
• Renssaeler Falls fire department, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• North Lawrence fire department, noon to 3 p.m.
• Hannawa Falls fire department, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Norwood fire department, 1 to 4 p.m.
• Edwards fire department, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
April 27:
• Hermon fire department, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• West Potsdam fire department, noon to 4 p.m.
• DeKalb Junction fire department, noon to 4 p.m.
• Hannawa Falls fire department, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
