If you are planning to run for sheriff, county clerk, town councilor, village trustee or one of the dozens of other seats up for grabs in this November’s election, here are a few dates regarding nominations that the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections says you might keep in mind:
• Party designating petitions:
June 7, first day for circulating and signing designating petitions
July 11 to 14, file designating petitions
July 18, last day to file authorization of the designation of a candidate who is not an enrolled member of the party for which the designation is being made
July 18, last day to file certificate of acceptance or declination of designation. Acceptance required only if candidate is not an enrolled member of the party
• Independent nominating petitions:
July 12, first day to sign independent petitions
Aug. 16 to 23, file independent petitions
Aug. 26, last day to file acceptance or declination of independent nomination. Acceptance is required by all candidates in order for petition to be valid.
• Certificates of nomination, for caucus results:
June 7, first day to hold town caucus
Sept. 20, last day to file Certificates of Nomination
Sept. 23, last day to accept or decline party nominations made at a caucus. Acceptance required only if candidates is not an enrolled member of the party.
