PIERREONT – A two-story family home in Pierrepont was completely destroyed in a fire this morning.

The structure, at 300 Post Rd., was reported to be “catching fire” when the call came in at 7:35 a.m., “but by the time we got there it was totally engulfed,” said Pierrepont Fire Department First Assistant Chief Tim Green. “There was fire coming out of all the windows. There was no way in so we used an exterior attack,” Green said. It took about 45 minutes to get the blaze under control, he said. They kept a barn about 30 feet away from sustaining any damage.

The couple living at the house, Mark Reardon and his wife, escaped unharmed.

In addition to Pierrepont firefighters, volunteer companies from Canton, Pyrites, Russell, Hannawa Falls, West Potsdam and Potsdam were on the scene. As the fire was brought under control, some of those units were sent back to their home stations or to other stations on standby status, Green said.
