Elizabeth "Liz" Leger, 88, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Elizabeth "Liz" Leger, age 88, of Ogdensburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church, officiated by Rev. James Shurtleff.

Following the service, burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be observed on Thursday, May 9th, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Liz was born on September 16, 1935, in Watertown, NY, the daughter of the late Elmer J. & Katherine (Yott) White.

She graduated from Lyme Central School in the class of 1951 and pursued her passion for nursing at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She obtained her degree in 1953 and remained at the hospital until 1956 when she relocated to Kileen, TX.

On March 2, 1957, she married the love of her life, Joseph L. Leger, in Kileen, TX. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, family, and service to their community.

Liz's career path led her to work at the Fort Hood Army Base in 1956 and back to the North Country in 1958. She then worked at Hepburn Hospital's maternity ward before transitioning to the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Operating Room and Central Supply, where she served until her retirement in 1996.

Additionally, she supported her husband's business, JL Leger, as a devoted bookkeeper for many years.

Liz was a cherished member of Notre Dame Church, where she shared her beautiful voice as a choir member.

Beyond her professional and volunteer commitments, Liz found joy in various hobbies, including crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, and tending to her garden.

She was an avid fan of Syracuse Basketball and once held the esteemed title of Jefferson County Dairy Princess in 1951.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Leger of Richland, NC, and Greg (Peggy) Leger of Cassel Rock, CO; a daughter, Suzanne (Brian) Watson of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Megan Leger & Mahmoud Shahbazi of Japan, Aaron (Devon) Leger of SC, Nick (Justina) Leger of NC, Sister Advocata of CA, Leah Frazier of CO, Rita Leger of CA, Sister Eucharisita of Italy, Elizabeth Leger of CO, Jeffery Leger of KS, Joel Lauson of Ogdensburg, and Dennis Watson of Ogdensburg; great-grandchildren Olivia Leger, Genevieve Frazier, Eleanor Frazier, Felicity Frazier, and Zeke Frazier; a brother, Harley White of Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph L. Leger, in 2008, and two brothers, Lawrence & Phillip White.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or Notre Dame Heritage Fund.
