Eldred H. “Herb” Green, 91, Colton

COLTON – A Mass of Christian Burial for Eldred H. “Herb” Green, 91, a resident of 508 Gulf Road, Colton, will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Colton with Rev. Joseph Giroux and Rev. Raymond Moreau presiding.  Burial will follow the services at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Colton.   Mr. Green passed away early Friday morning, April 19, 2024 at his home with family at his side. 

Eldred is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret, Colton; his daughter, Susan Smith (companion, Timothy Tebo) of Potsdam; his beloved grandchildren, Dillon (Sharisse) Smith and Brody Smith and a great-granddaughter, Kyla Smith.  He is also survived by his brothers, Arthur (Robin) Green, Pierrepont, Thomas Green of Pierrepont and his sisters, Edith Curry of Pierrepont, Ella Roberts of Pierrepont, Jane Mousaw of Colton and Geraldine (Ronald) Johnson of Pierrepont as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his siblings, Daniel, Archie, Betty, Edward, Freda, Frederick, Donald, Beverly, Bonnie, George and Tony.  

Eldred was born November 30, 1932 in Pierrepont, NY, a son of Arthur and Grace (Petrie) Green.  He attended local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart.  Eldred served a total of eight years and spent time in Japan, Germany, and the states.  After serving with the military, Eldred worked in the Labor Union, Plumbers Union and Operating Engineers Local 545 and retired from the Operators in 1994.  On July 16, 1966, he married Margaret Fitzpatrick at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in South Colton with. Rev. John Canning officiating. 

In his free time, Eldred loved spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing.  Eldred was a member of Canton Senior Citizen Club and he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Asia and Africa.
