Donald Duncan Cameron, 79, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG- A graveside service for Donald Duncan Cameron, 79, of Ogdensburg will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Notre Dame Cemetery with Deacon Bill O’Brien officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 3-6 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Mr. Cameron died unexpectedly on Monday evening, December 11th, 2023.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Duncan was born on August 23, 1944, in Ogdensburg, NY. He was the son of the late Donald G. and Mary E. (Martin) Cameron. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, class of 1962. On October 21, 1967, he married Norma Jean O’Marah at Notre Dame Church, the Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Rev. Roland Menard. She predeceased him on November 30, 2023. Duncan started part-time in the pro shop at the Ogdensburg Country Club in 1961, and joined the staff full time in 1963 as a greenskeeper. When the state purchased the course in 1968, he continued to work as a greenskeeper. The couple later moved to Fulton, NY, where he was employed by the Battle Island Golf Course from 1979 until 1997. Upon their return to the North Country, Duncan would become the Superintendent of the St. Lawrence Golf Course from 1997 until his retirement in 2002. In retirement he worked part time for the Langbrook Meadows Golf Course in Brier Hill as a greenskeeper. Duncan loved golfing, fishing, and going on trips to Las Vegas. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

Duncan is survived by his children; Melanie Michael and her husband David of Phoenix, AZ, Suzanne Armstrong and her husband Mike of Quaker, PA, David Cameron of Victor, NY and Cathy Cameron of Seattle, WA; a sister, Christine Lelek of Rhode Island; along with seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many very special nieces and nephews also survive him. Duncan is predeceased by a brother, Douglas M. Cameron, in 2020 and his brother-in-law, Gary Lelek.
