Democrats to announce Canton village, town candidates for upcoming elections on Friday

CANTON -- Canton Democrats will hold a news conference Friday to announce candidates for upcoming town and village elections. The conference will be held at 9 a.m. outside the Canton Municipal Building.

Candidates will be accompanied by their families and other Democratic committee members as they offer a brief statement. This event is open to the press and public.

Canton Democrats welcome Wayne Cuthbert as a candidate for Canton Town Board. Cuthbert is a 30-year member and current President of the IBEW Local 910 union and a farmer. Having held leadership positions in the construction industry, Cuthbert is uniquely positioned to offer practical experience and a fresh perspective on many challenges facing local government.

Randy Brown was appointed to the Canton Town Board in February and is seeking to remain on the board for a full term. A longtime teacher and coach in the community, Brown is eager to continue to serve Canton and give back to the community he has called home for 30 years. With his teaching and coaching background, Brown brings a high sense of organization, leadership, and collaboration to the Board, and is enthusiastic about continuing to serve.

Anna Sorensen is running for a second term as Canton Village Trustee. Sorensen is committed to prioritizing economic development and infrastructure improvements, supporting municipal staff, and working effectively across party lines, the Town, and community partners. She makes data-informed and fiscally responsible decisions and is excited to continue working for the Canton community.

Barb Beekman, a resident of Canton for 34 years, was appointed as a Village Trustee in Nov. 2022 and seeks a full term to continue focusing on Canton’s future. Beekman promises to remain a responsible steward of public funds and is committed to collaborative governance, with a focus on balancing community needs with fiscal reality.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7, and early voting begins Oct. 28.
