For the third consecutive day cold temperatures have broken records around St. Lawrence County as a low of 24 below zero was reported last night, according to Weather Underground.
The previous record set in 2011 was 2o below at KGTB Wheeler-Sack International Airport in Fort Drum, which is the nearest National Weather Service recording station for Star Lake and Gouverneur.
Temperatures in Gouverneur reportedly dipped down to 16 below last night, not breaking any records but still dangerously cold.
In the Northern portion of the county, Canton saw the coldest official temperature at 17 below which does not break the record of 26 below set in 2000.
All official temperature records for the northern part of the country are recorded at the Massena International Airport, which is the closest National Weather Service recording station.
Ogdensburg reached 14 below, Massena 12 below and Potsdam was reportedly 10 below, according to Weather Underground.
Temperatures are expected to reach above zero during the day today before possibly falling to 20 below zero again tonight.
