BRASHER – A St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility inmate awaiting trial for allegedly stabbing a Massena man has been charged with felony assault for allegedly punching an inmate—his second arrest for assault on an inmate since December, according sheriff’s deputies.
Doland R. Sylvia, 26, formerly of Massachusetts, was charged with felony assault and criminal mischief.
Deputies allege that he struck another inmate with his fist causing injury to the inmate. The assault charge is a felony due to the fact Sylvia is incarcerated.
In a separate incident Friday, deputies state Sylvia broke a pane of flass in a secure visitation area, bringing about the felony criminal mischief charge.
He was arraigned before Village of Canton Justice Storie and bail was place on him.
On Jan. 11, sheriff’s deputies charged Sylvia with felony second-degree assault for punching another inmate in the face, allegedly causing a broken nose and black eyes.
He was originally incarcerated Dec. 2 for allegedly stabbing Richard L. Manford, 32, of Parker Avenue, Massena, multiple times in the back while he was sleeping on the floor at 749 NYS Hwy. 11C, apartment 1, Brasher Falls.
He was arraigned and remanded to county jail on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bail bond on charges of second-degree assault, third degree criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
