CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County legislature’s finance committee voted in favor of a new lease to keep the New York State Police in the Public Safety Complex.
The full board will vote on a final resolution at their February meeting.
The motion passed at the Monday, Jan. 13 finance committee meeting is for April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2025.
It calls for them to pay $54,763 for April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021; $56,405 for April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022; $58,097 for April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023; $59,839 for April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024; and $61,634 for April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
“They will retain the space they occupy,” County Administrator Ruth Doyle told the finance committee. “They will transfer some parking spaces back to the county. They will look at, after a five-year, flat-rate increase over the prior five years, they will look at a 3% increase per year,” she said.
She estimated that would bring the state police from paying about $16 per square foot now to $18 by the end of the new lease.
