NORWOOD -- With heat indexes in the high 90s predicted by the National Weather Service today and tomorrow, the Norwood Public Library is extending its hours of operation until 6 p.m. on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20, so residents can use the space as a cooling station.
MASSENA -- The Massena Fire Department, Andrews Street, will be open as a cooling station today until 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. Firefighters advise members of the public to check on elderly, family and neighbors during the extreme high temperatures. They say anyone encountering heat-related sickness or injury should call 911.
GOUVERNEUR -- The Gouverneur Community Center, 4673 State Rte. 58, will be open as a cooling and comfort area on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ice and bottled water will be available.
