A superintendent is a 12-month employee and might start at $95,000. Prorated to 10 months this is $79,000. Superintendents are on call 24/7 and are often named in lawsuits. Let’s compare apples to apples. Every public employee needs to contribute to health insurance. According to one source, New York state has over 800 school districts (www.neighborhoodscout.com/ny/schools/). Florida has less than 100. We are foolish (and so is the BOCES superintendent), if we fail to consider consolidation as a way to be more efficient in providing this important service to our greatest asset.
