COLTON -- The Friends of Higley Flow invite cross-country skiers (young and old) to join in the Community Ski Challenge at Higley Flow State Park on Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18, as part of the Colton Winterfest.
The goal is to see if the community of Higley skiers can ski 145 miles which virtually crosses the North Country or better yet, ski 325 miles which is enough to claim they effectively skied across New York State.
Each skier will be asked to record the miles they skied daily over these three days on a poster-sized spreadsheet in the Higley Lodge.
If skiers cannot track their miles electronically, the Friends of Higley Flow will have a chart with trail names and distances to help.
This is the third year of the Community Ski Challenge, and organizers hope to beat last years’ record number of 90 participants who skied 325 miles.
If the region doesn't get more snow, organizers will postpone the Community Ski Challenge to Feb. 23 to the 25.
