Two St. Lawrence County Fire Departments will host open houses April 29, from 8 a.m.-noon, as part of the statewide RecruitNY event, which seeks to increase the ranks of volunteer fire fighters.
Both, Colton Volunteer Fire Department, 80 Riverside Drive, and Gouverneur Fire Department Inc., 1039 Us Hwy 11, will open their doors to educate the public about what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter.
Numerous other departments across the state are participating in the effort as well.
Established in 2011, RecruitNY is a joint undertaking by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC), Association of Fire Districts of New York State, Volunteer Fire Police Association of the State of New York, and County Fire Coordinators Association of the State of New York.
For more information regarding the Colton event, contact Jeffery W. Angleberger at anglejeff@aol.com, or call 315-262-2333. Call 315-287-1450 for more information about the Gouverneur open house.
