Brunswick, ME - Freshman Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) produced 12 points and 12 rebounds as well as three steals, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team came up short in a 56-44 loss to Regis College on Sunday afternoon at the Bowdoin Holiday Tournament.
The Golden Knights fell to 2-6 overall and will look to regroup next weekend when they begin the Liberty League conference schedule against Union College and Rensselaer.
Neither team scored in the opening three minutes of Sunday's game, but it was Regis that would make a good run in the remainder of the half. Clarkson trailed by a score of 16-12 midway through the half, but a 9-2 run put the Golden Knights down by double digits with 5:32 remaining. Following a Colleen Daley (Orchard Park, NY) jumper, Clarkson pulled back to within seven points (27-20) with 2:23 to go in the first half. Unfortunately for the Knights, it was the beginning of a long scoreless run that would give Regis a sizeable advantage.
The Knights were outscored in the final two minutes of the first half by a score of 8-0, and then Regis began the second half with a 9-0 run for 17 unanswered points by the opposition. A field goal from Isabella Esposito (Essex, VT) cut the run off, but Clarkson wouldn't get back into the game until the waning moments of the contest. Clarkson had a solid run in the final moments to climb back to within 12 points, but the Knights couldn't maintain their run in the final minute.
Loggins had her third straight double-double, and fifth this season, with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Daley nearly hit the goal as well with nine points and eight rebounds. Esposito also contributed eight points and seven rebounds for Clarkson, while freshman Taylor Glidden (Littleton, NH) also tossed in eight points. For Regis College, Emilee Marro had 14 points and seven rebounds and Claire Ramonas added 10 points and seven boards.
