The Clarkson University Women's Soccer program is pleased to announce the addition of Kelsey Yam and Jeffrey Gold to the team's coaching staff beginning in August 2013. Yam will serve as the team's top assistant coach while Gold will function as a volunteer assistant coach with a focus on goalkeeping.
Yam, a native of Longmeadow, MA, is a recent graduate of Skidmore College with a degree in Management & Business and a minor in Mathematics. She played for four seasons with the Thoroughbreds, gaining all-conference status on three occasions, as Skidmore compiled a 38-26-9 record during her four seasons with the program, including a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2009 and 2011). A midfielder and defender, Yam scored 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points in 73 games, including 69 starts. She was a Liberty League First-Team all-star as a sophomore and junior, gaining NSCSAA Division III All-East honors in 2011, and was chosen as a Liberty League Second-Team all-star this past season.
Yam served as an assistant coach with Black Watch Premier Soccer for the past few months and also participated in Uganda with the Soccer Without Borders program in the summer of 2012, helping to raise money for underprivileged kids worldwide while coaching soccer and teaching classes to children and young adults aged 5-to-20.
Yam replaced Rachael Sushner as the top assistant for the Golden Knights. Sushner recently completed her two-year stint with the Golden Knights and moved on to take a coaching position at Washington & Lee University.
Gold, who will primarily work as the goaltending coach, has extensive experience, having played professionally from 1975-78 in the Cosmopolitan League. He possesses an NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeper Diploma and a USSF National "C" License. He has been busy as a coach at numerous levels over the past decade, serving as the assistant coach at Skidmore College from 2004-2012, working as the goalkeeping instructor for NY Coerver Academy and Mountain Soccer School. He also functioned as the head coach for Black Watch Premier U16-18 Girls from 2008 to 2012.
