CANTON -- Canton Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley has hired a part-time confidential secretary to assist in her office.
Susan Huntley, a retired employee from the BOCES business office, will start the week of May 14 working 15 hours a week at $15 an hour.
“There is a significant need,” said Ashley, at the town board meeting Wednesday, May 9. “There is a lot to catch up on from 2017 still,” Ashley said.
Ashley does not need formal board approval to hire someone for the job, but was notifying the board at the meeting.
The supervisor said the town is still waiting to learn from the county if the position is exempt from Civil Service rules and the town may have to address that issue in the future if it comes up.
