POTSDAM – James Westerfield, volunteer in the laboratory services department, was recently named Volunteer of the Summer by Canton-Potsdam Hospital staff.
Since joining the hospital nearly two years ago, Westerfield has been a valuable asset to patients and staff.
He assists the laboratory staff with stocking supplies, transporting specimens, filing requisitions, and cross-checking orders and requests. Westerfield is noted for his reliability, honesty, and his attention to detail.
"As a retired medical technologist, James caught onto our processes and technology almost instantly" said Karen Cox, Assistant Director of Laboratory Services. "We are very fortunate that he has chosen to share his time as a volunteer with Canton-Potsdam Hospital and we hope he realizes just how valuable he is to our team."
Canton-Potsdam Hospital's 125+ active volunteers have donated more than 10,000 hours of service so far this year.
Volunteer opportunities include: gift shop, service excellence, patient care, emergency department, inpatient floors, medical records, and many more.
For more information about joining the hospital's volunteer program, contact Lyndsay Macagg, 261-5413, email: lmacagg@cphospital.org, or visit the hospital's website at: www.cphospital.org.
