The meeting will include a short presentation, informal discussion and a light lunch. RSVP is required.
Emma Brackett will speak and lead a discussion on “Diabetes, Depression, and Increasing Happiness.” Brackett is a member of the hospital’s chemical dependency team who teaches coping skills, stress reduction, family systems and dual diagnosis. Members of the community are welcome, especially those living with diabetes and depression or caring for loved ones with diabetes or depression.
Diabetes is a metabolic disease affecting 26 million children and adults in the U.S., CPH says. Without proper management, diabetes can lead to kidney disease, blindness, heart disease and amputation of lower limbs. It has been estimated that 27 percent of seniors over 65 have diabetes and those at greater risk include people with family history, the overweight or those of African descent, CPH says.
