CANTON -- A parent of students in Canton schools who has been asked to speak at a rally Wednesday in Albany is asking students to tell her how proposed cuts will affect them.
Tedra Cobb, a former county legislator, will be part of the contingent from St. Lawrence County for Advocacy Day at the state capitol Wednesday.
"Who wants to hear from another old lady!?" she said in an email to parents.
"I want to hear from our children and how the cuts will affect them," she said.
"So, if you are a student, please send me one sentence about what the cuts mean to you. Not general - but about the impact on you personally."
Parents have planned a bus trip to Albany for those from throughout the county who want to let state government know about the cuts schools in the county face and about what they believe is an unfair state formula for doling out state aid, which they say puts the North Country at a disadvantage.
Parents have met several times in recent weeks to discuss the effect that state funding will have on local schools, such as the 44 jobs that could be cut under Canton schools' current budget plan.
