BRASHER -- A May 20 concert at St. Lawrence Central will mark the fourth anniversary of a crash that killed five locals.
In July 2012, a crash on U.S. Route 11 in Antwerp claimed the lives of Laurie M. Dana, 42, Catelyn Dana, 14, Lauren Dana, 11, Janet Dana, 69 and Shannon Planty, 14, all from Lawrence. The collision also claimed the life of Maryann D. Gregory, 59, Dickinson Center.
Following the crash, a memorial scholarship in the Danas’ name was launched, helping students from St. Lawrence and Brushton-Moira districts. The concert proceeds will go toward that fund. Laurie Dana was a teacher at SLC. Lauren and Catelyn Dana were SLC students. Janet Dana was a retired BMCS music teacher and Planty was a BMCS student.
Both Planty and Catelyn Dana would have graduated this year.
Entertainment will include Madee DeRouchie, Daniel Hunter, Kelsey Newtown, Kenna and Krista Tavernia, Carissa Reome, David and Hyrum Pinegar, Ben Foster, Kaitlyn LaShomb and Troy O’Brien.
O’Brien helped set up the concert along with SLC music teacher Jamie LaBarge.
“Caitlyn and Shannon would have been in the 2016 graduation class and an evening of uplifting music in their honor was a must,” according to LaBarge. “Both schools will be participating in the entertainment.”
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with a 7 p.m. showtime. Admission is $3.
