BOMBAY – State troopers say they charged a Bombay man after he allegedly fled a traffic stop.
On March 11 at 2:30 a.m., troopers say they initiated a traffic stop on County Route 2 in the town of Bombay, on a 2008 Buick Lucerne for being unregistered.
Troopers allege the operator failed to stop and turned onto Beaver Meadow Road heading north. The pursuit continued onto State Route 37, west and then north onto Swamp Road, where State Police ended their pursuit, troopers said.
The vehicle was later located abandoned on Swamp Road. A state police K9 responded and found the suspect hiding in the woods. He was later identified as 60-year-old Steven L. Swamp of Bombay, police said.
Swamp allegedly resisted arrest, which resulted in the K9 biting his right arm and causing minor injury, troopers said, and he declined medical treatment.
Swamp was charged with resisting arrest and third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle. He was released with appearance tickets returnable to the Bombay Town Court, troopers said.
State Police were assisted by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police.
