My wife and I recently had the opportunity to attend a Town Hall type meeting with Blake Gendebien at 2E's in Edwards.
I have lived in Edwards all my life, and this is the first time in my memory a U.S. representative or a candidate for such took time to come to Edwards to discuss the issues of our times.
He was very well received and not only knows how the farming industry is currently hurting, but he is also well aware of the hardships most of us are enduring.
Most of us that are working have to drive 50-60 miles to work. Most of our commodities are trucked here from somewhere else and, with the cost of fuel and the tariffs, it has considerably raised the cost of living for all of us.
He talked about health care getting worse every day with so many federal cutbacks, and it's difficult to keep good doctors in this area.
He was born and raised in a rural setting, resulting in a down-to-earth type of person that can relate to rural people like most of use in the North Country, instead of the rich and fortunate people like Anthony Constantino and his rich buddies. Constantino calls Albany Upstate New York.
Elise Stefanik is a well-respected, well-educated and an up-and-coming member of the republican party, but she never paid much attention to the rural life in her district.
She threw all her time and support behind Donald Trump's disastrous agenda. She was promised a big cabinet position that never happened. Donald Trump has turned on the republican party, of which I was a member for 50 years, into the party of Trump. Apparently, she did not fit into his agenda, so he threw her under the bus and destroyed her political career.
My feeling is that if Anthony Constantino gets elected, he will also get behind Donald Trump and his rich buddies. He does not know or care about our rural way of life.
With his bullish attitude, he recently got physically escorted out of the St. Lawrence County legislators meeting, leaving him with no endorsement.
If Constantino goes against Donald Trump in any way, he will also be discarded like Elise, and again we will be left with no representative in Washington.
Voting for Blake, we know he will fight for our constitution, what is best for the country and Northern New York, without the fear of Donald Trump and his desire to be a dictator.
