Betty K. Parmeter, 90, Waddington

WADDINGTON – Betty K. Parmeter, 90, a longtime resident of County Route 31A (Connie Woods Road) peacefully passed away late Monday evening, March 18, 2024 in the comfort of her home.

Betty was born on October 20, 1933, in Massena, the daughter of the late Harold and Rose (Mossow) Villnave. She grew up in Waddington, where she attended school. On June 3, 1950, she married Judson Parmeter in Canton. Judson predeceased her on November 27, 2001.

In 1954, Betty started her career a nurse’s aide, first working at Massena Memorial Hospital and Crouse Irving Hospital prior to going to A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, where she continued until 1985 when she retired after 35 years of service.

She and her husband also owned and operated B&J Diner in Madrid from 1972 to 1974.

Betty dedicated many hours of her time as a member of the Waddington Rescue Squad Auxiliary for 35 years. She was a member of the United Church of Madrid, enjoyed playing cards, and camping.

Family was truly important to Betty as she proudly cared for her elderly mother and husband and hosting family gatherings and dinners.

Betty is survived by her children, Linda Rafter of Madrid, Edward and Darlene of Waddington, Bonnie and Glenn Taylor of Waddington, Timothy Parmeter of Waddington, and Shelly and Greg Murray of Hannawa Falls; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; her brother, Harold “Junior” Villnave of Raymondville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two grandchildren, Scott Rafter and Melinda Parmeter; her son-in-law, Terry Rafter; her brothers, Francis Villnave and Gary Villnave; and her sisters, Shirley McGregor, Patricia Ryan and Eileen Murray.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on April 13, 2024, at the United Church of Madrid with Rev. Tom Jones, officiating.

Burial will follow in Madrid Cemetery.

A celebration of her life will follow the burial at the Marine Corps League Building (adjacent to the Madrid Community Center).

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made to the United Church of Madrid or the Waddington Rescue Squad.
