POTSDAM – Artist Renee Holsen will offer six hours of instruction for beginning basket weavers through the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.
Using a basic “over-under” weave pattern, students will make a typical utilitarian basket known as a market basket.
Weaving with flat and flat oval reeds, students will determine the size of basket and learn how to weave color into a basket.
This is a messy class, so students should come prepared with two old kitchen-sized terry-cloth towels and old clothing (plus an apron if possible) that they don’t mind getting wet and stained. The class will meet Tuesday & Thursday, Feb. 28 and March 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. in room 229 at downtown Snell Hall, 41 Elm St.
Cost is $50, plus a $15 materials fee. Contact 265-6860 or www.slcartscouncil.org to register and pre-pay.
