An arctic airmass will move into the region today leading to a period of below normal temperatures over the next couple of days in St. Lawrence County, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Today will be chilly with temperatures falling throughout the day and brisk northwesterly winds, the service says. Skies will be party sunny with a high around 8 with a wind chill value of -11, NWS says.
An overnight low around -1 is expected with with chill values as low as -10.
As we move into the weekend a low pressure system will bring widespread moderate snow to the region Sunday through Monday, forecasters say.
Forecasters call for 2-6 inches of snow from Saturday night through Sunday morning.
The forecast through the middle of next week is as follows:
Saturday
A 40 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 7am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 21. Wind chill values as low as -8. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Saturday Night
A chance of snow showers before 8pm, then snow likely, mainly after 9pm. Cloudy, with a low around 20. South wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Sunday
Snow. High near 32. South wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Sunday Night
Snow, mainly before 2am, then a chance of snow showers after 2am. Low around 10. South wind around 7 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Monday
A 50 percent chance of snow showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 17. West wind around 9 mph.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 7. West wind 5 to 9 mph.
Tuesday
A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
