OGDENSBURG – A lack of ice in Wheathouse Bay has forced the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad to cancel their annual ice fishing derby, which was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18.
Earlier this winter, some events at the Colton Winterfest including the annual Higley Hustle cross-country ski race had to be canceled. The unusual weather has some winter-dependent businesses concerned.
The derby is an important fundraiser for the squad, and they hope more people will now support the Polar Bear Plunge, which shares the income from pledges between the Rescue Squad and the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce.
The Polar Bear Plunge is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Visitor’s Center/Municipal Marina.
To get your pledge sheet call the chamber at 393-3620 or visit ogdensburgny.com.
