In response to the post about the nuclear power plant ideas (Sound Off, NorthCountryNow.com, “Nuclear Power Plant…Really?”), nuclear power gets a lot of bad press that it does not deserve. As an engineering student at Clarkson, I know that nuclear energy in today’s world is one of the safest forms of energy, as well as one of the most environmentally friendly besides solar, wind, and hydro. The plant design has hundreds of fail-safes so if there is a problem, it will not harm the public. More people die from cancer caused by coal power plants every year than the total number of people who have died because of effects from nuclear power. Do your research before you start bashing nuclear power, you coal-lover.
