Wind chill values of -10 expected today in St. Lawrence County; freezing rain, sleet, snow likely this weekend

A complex storm storm system is expected to produce a widespread moderate to locally heavy precipitation event across the region this weekend.

This system will feature a complex thermal profile, resulting in a period of sleet and freezing rain across our forecast area Saturday night into Sunday morning, especially across Northern New York, forecasters say.

Latest forecast indicate the heaviest precipitation and greatest threat for moderate to localized significant icing would be across the St. Lawrence Valley, NWS says.

In addition to the warm temperatures preceding this event, snow melt will enhance river rises from precipitation with the potential for minor river flooding, the service says.

Before the storm, we will see a cold St. Lawrence County, forecasters predict. Highs today will be around 20 with wind chill values of -10.
