CANTON – The public is invited to a special tree planting on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Willow Island in Canton.

Richard Grover, chair of the Village of Canton Tree Committee, reports that a five trees will be planted. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m.

“A landscape architectural fow preparing a plan that will set the stage for future enhancements to this park,” stated Grover in an email to North Country This Week. “And on Saturday. A grove of five native trees will be planted to kick off the park process and enhance an already popular picnic site on the island.”

Grover noted that parking is limited and encourages attendees to park off site, possibly downtown, and walk to Willow Island.

“Bring family, children in particular, and a shovel to help with the tree plantings,” Grover stated. “Or just come and celebrate the occasion and Canton’s 10 years as a Tree City USA community.”

The tree planting was made possible through a $1,000 grant from the New York State Forestry Council.

In the event of inclement weather, the tree planting will take place Sunday, Nov. 6.
