POTSDAM — The village is seeking public comment online regarding what can be done to improve pedestrian and motorist safety on Route 11 out to Walmart.

A traffic safety study of the stretch of commercial roadway is underway by Clarkson’s Construction Engineering Management Consulting Group (C3G). The study is being funded by the village, town and the Health Initiative.

“There is a study that is happening right now and we are seeking public input on some of the thoughts on the future of Route 11,” Village Trustee Alexandra Jacobs Wilke at the village board’s May meeting.

Wilke said the study group has posted story maps online with some of the ideas already generated from public input on how the commercial route can be changed to enhance safety. View those online at https://tinyurl.com/2cjntt89 .

“The (state) Department of Transportation is really paying attention so I think it's really worthwhile for the community to give your thoughts,” Wilke said.

The trustee said there is funding available for improving safety in traffic corridors like the stretch of Route 11 being studied by C3G.

Once the story map has been viewed, there is a link at the end to an online survey for members of the public to take regarding the corridor.

Paper copies of the survey are also available at the village Civic Center.
