POTSDAM — District voters in the Potsdam Central School District will turn out on May 18 to vote on school board candidates.
Potsdam has two incumbents running and three seats open on the board. Voting is from 12-8 p.m.
Potsdam candidates include:
Joshua Fiske
Josh Fiske has been a resident of the Potsdam Central School District for 21 years and is currently employed as the chief information officer at Clarkson University.
Fiske’s three daughters -- Meredith, Charlotte, and Norah -- are students in the Potsdam school district, and his wife, Rebecca, has been a high school English teacher for nearly 15 years.
Fiske holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in information technology, both awarded by Clarkson University.
Fiske has served in several leadership roles for regional and statewide non-profits, including on the board of directors at the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad, the church board at the Potsdam Church of the Nazarene, and on the board of directors for NYSERNet.org.
In his initial term on the board of education, he has served on three board committees: Audit, Finance, and Program and Policy.
Fiske cites has a significant interest in making sure that the school is offering all students a top-notch education, providing the faculty with the tools they need to be
effective educators, and producing graduates that have a solid preparation for the challenges that life can present, said his bio circulated to district voters.
Fiske is seeking re-election for a 3-year term.
James Hubbard
Jim Hubbard was born and raised in Potsdam and graduated from Potsdam Central High School in 1993. He then entered into
the United States Navy. When he left the Navy, he returned to Potsdam to attend college.
He currently works at SUNY Potsdam in the IT Department.
Hubbard has served on the Potsdam Central School District Board of Education for several years now.
Hubbard said he enjoys the work he does as a board member and is glad to help in any way possible to ensure that the students at Potsdam Central School get a well rounded education and have good and positive experiences while attending, his bio said.
