CANTON -- SUNY Canton summer registration for more than 150 courses opens Monday.

Most of those courses are offered online and many are on campus. The summer session begins May 31 and concludes Aug. 5. Five sessions offer 15-week courses condensed into smaller time frames.

"The State University of New York wants campuses to offer general education requirements year-round, something SUNY Canton has been doing for several years," said SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy.

General Education courses, or Gen Ed requirements, that fulfill certain major requirements across the entire SUNY system have been in the highest demand each of the past several years.

In 2010, there was a 47 percent enrollment increase from the year before with nearly 1,300 total enrollments. Since 2007, SUNY Canton's summer programming has grown nearly 300 percent. Much of that is from an increase in online courses.

Course registration will open on Monday, April 25 and conclude on the first day of classes of each session.
