CANTON -- St. Lawrence County Chief Assistant District Attorney Jason Marx has resigned his position.
St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua said he would not comment in detail on the matter but said after some discussion Marx decided to tender his resignation. Pasqua said Jan. 8 will be his last official day on the job.
Pasqua confirmed that Marx was looking for another position within the county system, but did not elaborate further.
When he replaced former District Attorney Mary Rain following a 2017 election, he named Marx as his chief assistant district attorney.
Marx had served in the as an assistant district attorney under District Attorney Nichole Duve, but resigned the position in 2012.
Pasqua asked Marx to take the job in December of 2017, because of his past experience in the county and familiarity of the area. At the time Pasqua said that during his search for a chief Marx received praise from his colleagues in Clinton County.
Marx also worked as an assistant district attorney and conflict defender in Franklin and Clinton counties.
North Country This Week has requested a copy of the resignation letter, Pasqua indicated that request would be forwarded to the St. Lawrence County Human Resources.
