St. Lawrence County Legislature proclaims June as National Dairy Month

CANTON — St. Lawrence County legislators marked June as 'National Dairy Month’ on Monday by passing a resolution and paying homage to one of the county’s largest industries.

St. Lawrence County Legislator Kevin Acres, R-Madrid, a retired dairy farmer himself, took the opportunity to acknowledge dairy farmers and honorable and hardworking members of society.

The resolution noted that in May of 2020 St. Lawrence County dairy farmers were ranked 55th out of the top 100 dairy producing counties in the United States and that the county farmers produced more than 812 million pounds of milk in 2020 alone.

The celebration of the industry received additional praise as St. Lawrence County’s Dairy Court attended the meeting.

The court offered praise for farmers, shared the importance of the dairy industry and provided cheese to St. Lawrence County Legislators.

Each member of the court spoke briefly to the county discussing their connection to the dairy industry and thanked legislators for allowing them to attend.

In attendance was soon-to-be crowned Dairy Princess Elaina Wainwright and members of the court.

Members include Lead Dairy Promotor Joshua Godbout, Princess Alternates Camryn Chester, Chloe Renaud and Sarah Rodee and ambassadors Michael Pierce Kaitlyn Putman, Myrah Bullock, Kalyn Bullock and Kenzie Phillips.

Typically St. Lawrence County holds the annual Dairy Princess Parade and Festival in June, but this year it has been postponed until August 13 and 14.
