St. Lawrence County Health Department reports 42 new COVID cases Wednesday

The St. Lawrence County Health Department reported 42 new COVID cases on Wednesday, Sept. 1 and 18 hospitalizations, down one from yesterday.

Active number of cases has risen to 381, up from 365 just a day ago.

Hospitalizations dropped by one, to 18 total.

Total number of confirmed cases to date is 8,607.

To date, 8,127 individuals have been released from isolation. The number of deaths remains at 99.

The total number of tests performed to date is 362,927.

The percentage of fully vaccinated individuals rose slightly to 51.3%. The positivity rate rose just over two tenths to 4.33%.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID-19 vaccine, Public Health said. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older.

The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.

St. Lawrence County Public Health strongly urges and recommends that all persons wear a mask indoors in public spaces, in accordance with recent CDC guidance.

Public Health Department is currently holding COVID-19 Vaccination clinics every Monday and Wednesday at 80 St. Hwy 310, Suite 2, Canton, NY.
