HANNAWA FALLS -- Ten members from various St. Lawrence County Fire Departments recently completed an intensive 24-hour training program in pump operations spanning the months of October and November.

The training, known as the New York State Apparatus Operator - Pump class, was hosted by the Hannawa Falls Fire Department, with one session held at the Parishville Fire Department, according to former Madrid Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ted Shultz.

He said during the course, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of pump operations, covering topics such as the responsibilities of pump operators, hydraulics and friction loss, pump controls and accessories, fire streams, pumper practices, pumping from draft and pump evolutions, and utilizing the fire pump at the hydrant," .

"The hosting department, Hannawa Falls, generously provided refreshments on the final evening of the class," Schulz said. "Special thanks go to Chief Ken Eurto of Hannawa Falls Fire Department, along with Past Chief Derek Sagriff, for coordinating the facilities and locations for practical skills. Gratitude is also extended to Parishville Chief Ed Cool and First Assistant Chief Jeff McGregor for allowing the use of their station, apparatus, and related equipment for one of the classes."
