CANTON – St. Lawrence County’s public health director says anyone who is 16 or 17 years old and wants to be vaccinated should get to the SUNY Potsdam mass vaccination site this week.

Jolene Munger, the department’s interim head, said that site is offering the Pfizer vaccine until the end of this week. Next week, it will exclusively offer the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which people that age can’t get.

“If you’re 16 or 17 years old, for right now, this is your only option,” Munger said.

Munger added that the state site has “a lot of appointments available until that time” and also takes walk-ins.

“There are no pharmacies that currently have [the Pfizer vaccine] in stock,” she said.

Pfizer’s is a two-dose vaccine, with a booster shot required three weeks after the first dose.

Countywide, Board of Health President Dr. Andrew Williams said a little over one-third of the overall St. Lawrence County population -- 37% -- is fully vaccinated. About 41.5% of the total population has had a first dose.

Of the total St. Lawrence County population eligible for vaccination, 50.6% have received one dose, and 45.11% are fully vaccinated.

Appointments at the SUNY Potsdam site can be made by visiting https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov . Walk-ins are also being accepted.

Coronavirus vaccinations are offered at clinics, with more information available at https://www.stlawco.org/covid-19-daily-update-center#pods
