CANTON -- A number of judges will take over Judge Jerome Richards's St. Lawrence County court duties after he retires on Feb. 6, according to Felix Catena, administrative judge for the 4th Judicial District.
Judge John Richey will fill in for day-to-day criminal court matters.
There will be a rotation of judges to preside over hearings and jury trials through the remainder of the year.
Seven judges will preside over hearings and jury trials - Judge Tatiana Coffinger, Hamilton County; Judge William Favreau, Clinton County; Judge Kate Hogan, acting supreme court judge handling criminal cases from Warren County; Judge Derek Champagne, Franklin County; Judge John Hall, Warren County; Judge Kelly McKeighan, Washington County; and Judge Richard Meyer, Essex County.
Judge Coffinger will also take over pistol permit hearings, according to Catena.
Judge Richards also was an acting Supreme Court judge. Judges Richey, Cecily Morris and Mary Farley will fill in there, Catena said.
Richards's seat will be up for election in November.
