Sen. Ritchie wants constituent input on budget

Posted

State Senator Patty Ritchie is asking constituents for guidance as she begins analyzing New York State's proposed budget.

Ritchie asks taxpayers to visit her website and answer 10 questions on state budget issues ranging from Gov. Cuomo’s planned property tax cap to a proposal to allow wine sales in supermarkets.

Survey questions include:

• Would you support balancing the State Budget and eliminating the deficit by cutting spending, even if it means a reduction in state government services?

• Would you support a State Budget that cuts spending even if that meant reducing spending on education aid and health care programs?

• Do you support restoring the STAR Rebate check program to provide more school property tax relief?

• Do you support the sale of wine in supermarkets?

The survey also asks taxpayers to tell her what they believe is the most important issue facing their families.

"As Senator, I want to know what the people of the 48th Senate District are thinking about these important issues."

The survey format requires those who take it to identify themselves. The complete survey is available through the senator’s web site at www.ritchie.nysenate.gov or directly at https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFVWUno3MnV1MndpU2F4YjJuM1ZnT1E6MQ.

"New York faces some difficult challenges, from an out-of-balance budget caused by years of overspending, to high taxes that threaten our economy, our future, and make life tougher for hardworking families like yours," Ritchie said.

"We all must work together to get New York government back on track—and get New Yorkers working again. By sharing your ideas and opinions, you can help me make the choices that best serve the interests of our communities."

The 48th District includes Oswego and Jefferson counties and western St. Lawrence County.
