AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 today (Tuesday, April 20), making 13 total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction.
Three community members were released from isolation and there was no update to the number of family members and friends in quarantine, which remains at 18.
Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services is holding a walk-in vaccination clinic on Thursday, April 22 for all individuals at least 16 years old who are interested in receiving the Pfizer Vaccine.
The walk-in clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (or while doses last) at the former-IGA Building located at 850 State Route 37 in Akwesasne.
Pfizer will be the only vaccine available on this day. The vaccine clinic is open to all however, 16- and 17-year-olds require a parent’s attendance.
For those who will be getting their first dose (or Prime) you may have some slight side effects, but these are normal signs that your body is building protection. Some common side effects are a soreness or discomfort at the injection area, fever, chills, tiredness and/or headache. Call your healthcare provider for any severe allergic reactions or side effects that do not go away after a few days.
If you are receiving the Pfizer vaccine, a second shot (or Booster) needs to be administered 21 days after the first dose. It takes approximately two weeks after the second shot for individuals to receive Pfizer’s 95% efficacy rate however, regardless of your vaccination status individuals should continue to follow all safety protocols: wear a mask, watch your distance, and wash your hands often.
If you have a non-emergency matter, call the Emergency Operations Center at 518-320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
