Another record high temperature for the date has been set at Massena today, and a new high for all of March could be set tomorrow.

As of 2 p.m. today, the National Weather Service station at the airport, Richards Field, was 79 degrees, besting by 17 degrees the old record there of 62, recorded in 1976. At 3 p.m., the Weather Underground web service was reading 80.9 degrees at their unofficial station at the Massena wastewater plant.

The all-time high for any day in March at the Massena airport was 82 degrees. The forecast high for tomorrow is about 81.

The average high temperature for March in Massena is 38 degrees, and the low, 18 degrees. Other record highs at Massena: March 22, 66, in 1953; March 23, 73, in 1979.

The historic and record-breaking March warm spell will continue through Thursday across the North Country, with St. Lawrence Valley high temperatures reaching 80 to 85 degrees in many areas.

The high pressure system responsible for the warmth begins to break down late Thursday, the NWS predicts, and a weak cold front will move in from the north Thursday evening, which could bring scattered rain showers and perhaps a thunderstorm to the North Country late tomorrow afternoon into the evening.

Dry weather returns for Friday and Saturday, but with afternoon high temperatures only in the 60s on

Friday and in the lower 50s Saturday.
