POTSDAM — Tips from the public resulted in a Massena man being charged with stealing from a local store.

A Massena man was charged on connection with a shoplifting incident at Potsdam Walmart, 7494 U.S. Highway 11, last month, according to state police.

Joseph W. McGregor, 34, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny following a traffic stop March 12 around 1:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 11, officers said. Troopers said he was driving on a suspended license.

He was additionally charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of not having a controlled substance in its original container, officers said.

McGregor was cited and released.

State police thanked the public for calling in with their tips.
