North Country This Week

POTSDAM — The village board approved several payments and contracts, and passed several other resolutions at its regular meeting Tuesday, June 21.

The trustees authorized a $1,950 payment to Roemer, Walls, Gold & Mineaux for labor relations services for June 2022.

Payment of $240.50 to Development Authority of the North Country for professional services rendered in May 2022 for the second phase of the Crosstown Canal Project was approved.

The board approved payments of $115.50 and $4,197.37 to the village’s legal firm Johnson & Laws, LLC for services rendered through April 2022 on the JEDA Capital 56 LLC vs. Village of Potsdam case.

The village was authorized to enter into a technical services agreement with the Development Authority of the North Country to provide technical assistance and support for administration of the Raymond-Depot Connector Street project. The amount to be paid for the service offered by DANC is not to exceed $7,150. Funding for the contract will be provided through a Northern Border Regional Commission Grant.

The mayor and trustees voted to approve a contract with Crawford and Stearns, Architects and Preservation Planners, PLLC to serve as project architect for the Potsdam Public Museum Renovation Project. The work is not to cost more than $14,000. The cost of the contract will meet some of the village’s obligation to cover project costs under the auspices of the NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Grant that will fund the bulk of the work.

A resolution declaring June 2022 Pride Month in the Village of Potsdam was approved. The village intends to raise the Pride Flag in recognition of the month.

The mayor and trustees approved the membership of Brandon Bahr into the Potsdam Fire Department. Bahr has obtained a favorable vote from the department for induction and has passed the physical exam.

The trustees approved the mayor’s reappointment of Sue Corbett to the Potsdam Housing Authority Board for a 5-year term from June 18, 2022 to June 18, 2027.

Resolutions approving the mayor’s appointment of Heather Wells to serve as deputy village clerk and deputy village registrar were also approved. Wells will serve out the unexpired terms of Christine Travis for the two positions. Travis stepped down from both. The terms both end Dec. 5.

Finally the board approved a resolution declaring a village wood splitter with a 37-ton Honda motor and extra beam as surplus and authorized the clerk to advertise for bids to sell it.
