POTSDAM -- Potsdam Central students will no longer need to wear masks outside.
Last night the Board of Education decided to adopt the new guidance released by the CDC and has been approved at the state and county level.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced Monday that school districts can choose to lift the requirement that their students must wear masks outdoors. Guidance on mask use indoors remains in place. This change aligns New York State’s guidance on schools with CDC guidance on summer camps, where even unvaccinated students are not currently required to wear masks outdoors.
Staff, students, and visitors will no longer be required to wear face coverings when outside during the school day or at events on school property outside the school day.
This change will go into effect immediately.
"We hope this is the first of many changes will see that will see us gradually return to normalcy," said PCS Superintendent Joann Chambers.
Yesterday, many other schools adopted the new mask guidance. For more, see story here.
